People with mental health problems had always been declared insane and ousted to the very end of society. Most people find their world mysterious and incomrehensible.
At the Age of Reason building of big institutional facilities on the outskirts was started and people with mental disorders were to be treated there – and at the same time put away from public sight. In spite of all progress achieved by modern psychiatry, the tradition of big mental hospitals remains still alive.
The idea that people with mental disorders do not need by most a long-term stay in an isolation ward and under medical restraint but above all multiaspect and effective assistance has been advanced just slowly. And that is Fokus` concern – to provide help in natural environment, help that fits the users and is as far as possible effective.
